Regular Season Round 8: Sturt S. - Norwood F. 59-80

Rather expected game in Pasadena where 5th ranked Sturt Sabres (4-4) were rolled over by second ranked Norwood Flames (7-1) 80-59 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Norwood Flames. Sturt Sabres was better in fourth quarter 16-15. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Sturt Sabres 53-42 including 21 on the offensive glass. The best player for the winners was guard Matthew Lycett (194-90) who scored 19 points and 7 rebounds. Matthew Long chipped in 15 points and 9 rebounds. Four Norwood Flames players scored in double figures. The former international forward Jan Warbout (201-91) produced 7 points and 12 rebounds and naturalized Greek power forward Max Calligeros (197-92) added 9 points and 6 rebounds respectively for the hosts. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Norwood Flames maintains second position in League with 7-1 record behind leader Cockburn C. Loser Sturt Sabres keep the fifth place with four games lost. Norwood Flames will face West Adelaide Bearcats (#7) in Woodville in the next round where they are favorite. Sturt Sabres will play on the road against North Adelaide Rockets in Greenacres and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
