There was a small surprise when eleventh ranked Wildcats (1-7) won against 8th ranked Venom (2-5) in Eltham 62-51 on Sunday. Wildcats held Venom to an opponent 25.0 percent shooting from the field compared to 28.6 percent accuracy of the winners and made 24-of-31 free shots (77.4 percent) during the game, while Venom only scored eight points from the stripe. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Wildcats made 8 blocks. Venom was plagued by 26 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a very good performance for Lauren Bennett who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 14 points and 12 rebounds. Forward Olivia Bontempelli (179-93) contributed with 20 points and 8 rebounds for the winners. Naturalized Italian guard Nicole Romeo (168-89, college: Washington, agency: Regeneracom Sports) answered with 28 points and 5 rebounds and center Amanda Meinking (192-96) added 12 points, 15 rebounds and 5 blocks in the effort for Venom. Venom's coach tested ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Wildcats left bottom position moving up to tenth place in League. Loser Venom dropped to the ninth position with five games lost. Wildcats will face higher ranked Tigers (#8) in Melbourne in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
