There was an upset in Hermit Park where second-ranked Cairns Marlins (1-1) were defeated by top-ranked Townsville Heat (1-0) 100-84 on Sunday. Townsville Heat made 23-of-29 free shots (79.3 percent) during the game. They shot the lights out from three sinking 15 long-distance shots on high 60.0 percentage. The best player for the winners was the former international point guard Joshua Wilcher (178-91, college: Cent.Wyoming) who scored 20 points. Guard Mirko Djeric (191-95) chipped in 23 points. Point guard Damon Heuir (191-91, college: S.Utah) produced 20 points and 9 rebounds and the former international power forward Alexander Loughton (206-83, college: ODU) added 22 points and 9 rebounds respectively for the guests. Five Townsville Heat and four Cairns Marlins players scored in double figures. Townsville Heat left bottom position moving up to seventh place in League. Loser Cairns Marlins dropped to the eighth position with one game lost. Townsville Heat will face league's second-placed Ipswich Force in Booval in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game.
