No shocking result in a game when third ranked Ballarat Rush (3-2) crushed 5th ranked Brisbane Spartans (2-5) in Wendouree 88-62 on Sunday. Ballarat Rush outrebounded Brisbane Spartans 50-32 including a 42-19 advantage in defensive rebounds. They shot the lights out from three sinking 12 long-distance shots on high 54.5 percentage. Ballarat Rush looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists comparing to just 8 passes made by Brisbane Spartans' players. It was a very good performance for American center Joy Burke (196-90, college: Arizona St.) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 16 points and 16 rebounds (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field). Guard Abigail Wehrung (177-95) contributed with 23 points for the winners. Five Ballarat Rush players scored in double figures. Ballarat Rush's coach felt very confident using 10 players and allowed the starting five to rest. American swingman Aja Parham (183-84, college: Boston Coll.) answered with a double-double by scoring 24 points and 11 rebounds and swingman Stephanie Bairstow (188-94, college: Utah St.) added 9 points and 8 rebounds in the effort for Brisbane Spartans. Ballarat Rush maintains third place in League with 3-2 record having seven points less than leader Rockingham CF. Loser Brisbane Spartans keep the fifth position with five games lost. Ballarat Rush will face league's leader Tornadoes in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Brisbane Spartans will play against Hobart Chargers (#6) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
