Regular Season Round 31: Hapoel Eilat - Maccabi T-A 85-88

Fifth-ranked Hapoel Eilat (16-15) gave a tough game to second ranked Maccabi T-A (22-9). The visitors from Tel-Aviv managed to secure only three-point victory 88-85. However their fans expected easier game. It looked good early as Hapoel Eilat took a 6-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Maccabi T-A had a 29-18 second period charge getting the lead and Hapoel Eilat was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 85-88. Maccabi T-A made 23-of-28 charity shots (82.1 percent) during the game. It was an exceptional evening for international point guard Gal Mekel (190-88, college: Wichita St., agency: Beo Basket) who led the winners and scored 29 points and 4 assists. The former international point guard Yogev Ohayon (189-87) accounted for 13 points, 7 assists and 5 steals for the winning side. Maccabi T-A's coach Zan Tabak allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. American guard DeAndre Kane (193-89, college: Iowa St., agency: Beo Basket) came up with 20 points and 6 rebounds and the other American import Khalif Wyatt (193-91, college: Temple, agency: Pensack Sports) added 22 points and 5 assists respectively for Hapoel Eilat in the defeat. Maccabi T-A maintains second place with 22-9 record having just three points less than leader Hapoel J-M. Hapoel Eilat at the other side keeps the fifth position with 15 games lost. Maccabi T-A's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Tel-Aviv Hapoel Tel-Aviv.
