Regular Season Round 15: Academia - Cimarrones 96-78

There was a change at the Liga DirecTV leadership position after last games. Round 15 most important game was a defeat of league's leader Cimarrones (11-4). They were defeated by second ranked Academia (12-3) 96-78 on Friday night. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Cimarrones. It was a key game for the top position in the league. The hosts trailed by 1 point after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 7-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 96-78. Academia outrebounded Cimarrones 43-32 including 32 on the defensive glass. They shot the lights out from three sinking 13 long-distance shots on high 52.0 percentage. Academia looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. It was a great evening for Puerto Rican-Dominican forward Jonathan Rodriguez (196-87, college: Campbell) who led his team to a victory scoring 33 points (!!!), 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Canadian forward Dwayne Smith (198-89, college: G.Washington) helped adding 22 points and 11 rebounds. The best for the losing side was American forward Tyquane Goard (201-93, college: Marshall) with 25 points and 9 rebounds and the other American import guard Brandon Sperling (196-90, college: Humboldt St.) scored 13 points and 8 rebounds. Academia keeps a position of league leader. Cimarrones at the other side dropped to the second place with four games lost. They were replaced at the leadership position by Academia. Cimarrones will have a break next week, which should allow them to rest and make it back to the top of the standings. Academia will try to continue on its current victory against second ranked Cimarrones in Quibdo-Choco.
