Regular Season Round 16: Academia - Cimarrones 91-65

An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Montana. First ranked Academia faced their biggest opponent Cimarrones. Host Academia (13-3) smashed guests from Quibdo-Choco (11-5) 91-65. The game was mostly controlled by Academia. Cimarrones was better in second period 25-20. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Cimarrones to just 7 points in third quarter. Academia made 24-of-28 charity shots (85.7 percent) during the game. They outrebounded Cimarrones 51-26 including a 36-16 advantage in defensive rebounds. Worth to mention a great performance of Puerto Rican-Dominican forward Jonathan Rodriguez (196-87, college: Campbell) who helped to win the game recording 30 points (made all of his nine free throws !!!). Canadian swingman Tyler Murray (195-90, college: Wagner) contributed with 19 points, 7 rebounds and 8 assists for the winners. Four Academia players scored in double figures. The former international power forward Enielsen Guevara (204-82) replied with 15 points and power forward Cesar Cortes (200-81) added 12 points in the effort for Cimarrones. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Academia have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 13-3 record. Cimarrones at the other side keep the second place with five games lost. Academia will play against Sabios (#5) in Manizales in the next round. Cimarrones will play at home against Piratas and hope to get back on the winning track.
