The game between closely ranked teams ended with one of their biggest challengers Mount Gambier Pioneers' (6-3) road loss to third ranked Spectres (6-4) 78-84 on Saturday. Spectres outrebounded Mount Gambier Pioneers 39-28 including 30 on the defensive glass. Power forward Simon Conn (206-83, college: Gardner-Webb) fired 18 points for the winners. Forward Andrew Steel (200-91, college: Cal Poly Pomona) chipped in 9 points and 8 rebounds. Spectres' coach used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The former international guard Tom Daly (182-91) produced 24 points and forward Luke Jamieson (200-94) added 14 points and 6 rebounds respectively for lost side. Spectres maintains third position in League with 6-4 record having just eight point less than leader Townsville H. which they share with defeated Mount Gambier Pioneers. Loser Mount Gambier Pioneers dropped to the third place with three games lost. Spectres will face Bandits (#5) in Albury in the next round. Mount Gambier Pioneers will play at home against Frankston Blues and hope to win that game.
