Very expected game in Mackay where 8th ranked Meteorettes (1-2) were defeated by fourth ranked Cyclones (3-1) 76-71 on Sunday. American Shanavia Dowdell (188-87, college: Louisiana Tech, agency: LBM Management) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 24 points and 11 rebounds for the winners and her fellow American import Chandrea Jones (177-87, college: Syracuse, agency: LBM Management) chipped in 18 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists. The best for the losing side was forward Tami Willey (183-79) with 20 points and 7 rebounds and American guard Deanna Weaver (180, college: Boise St.) scored 19 points. Five Meteorettes players scored in double figures. Cyclones moved-up to third place in League. Loser Meteorettes dropped to the ninth position with two games lost. Cyclones will face league's leader Flames in Townsville in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Meteorettes will play on the road against Bears (#4) in Bundaberg and hope to win that game.
