Liga DirecTV top team - Academia (17-3) had no problems winning another game on Tuesday. This time they beat eighth ranked Piratas (2-18) in Montana 93-77. Academia dominated down low during the game scoring 68 of its points in the paint compared to Piratas' 36. They outrebounded Piratas 48-28 including a 38-19 advantage in defensive rebounds. The winners were led by Puerto Rican-Dominican forward Jonathan Rodriguez (196-87, college: Campbell) who scored that evening 32 points and 6 assists and naturalized Venezuelan forward Michael Hinestroza Javes (208-90, college: UALR) supported him with 13 points and 18 rebounds. Five Academia players scored in double figures. Even 31 points and 5 rebounds by American swingman Antonio Davis (196-82, college: Urbana) did not help to save the game for Piratas. His fellow American import forward Arnold Fripp (201-93, college: Coppin St.) added 16 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists for the guests. Academia have an impressive seven-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 17-3 record. Piratas lost fourth consecutive game. They stay dead last with 18 lost games. Academia will meet Condores (#6) in the next round where they are favorite. Piratas will play against Patriotas and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
