Very important is a road loss of third ranked Mount Gambier Pioneers (7-5) against eighth ranked Tigers (2-10) on Saturday night. Visiting Mount Gambier Pioneers were defeated by Tigers in a tough game in Melbourne 73-78. Strangely Mount Gambier Pioneers outrebounded Tigers 46-30 including a 17-6 advantage in offensive rebounds. The winners were led by the former international guard Rhys Carter (190-84) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 25 points, 5 rebounds, 10 assists and 4 steals and Chinese forward Bo Liu (205-96) supported him with 12 points and 8 rebounds. Even a double-double of 18 points and 19 rebounds by American forward Desmond Simmons (198-92, college: St.Mary's, CA, agency: Two Points) did not help to save the game for Mount Gambier Pioneers. The former international swingman Brad Hill (196-86) added 24 points and 5 rebounds. Four Mount Gambier Pioneers players scored in double figures. Tigers maintains eighth position in League with 2-10 record. Loser Mount Gambier Pioneers dropped to the fourth place with five games lost. Tigers will meet BA CoE (#8) in the next round. Mount Gambier Pioneers will play against NW Tasmania Thunder (#3) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
