CIBACOPA top team - Rayos de Hermosillo (28-12) managed to deliver another win on Saturday. This time they beat eighth ranked Pioneros Los Mochis (16-22) 94-80. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Pioneros Los Mochis. Rayos de Hermosillo dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to Pioneros Los Mochis' 26. They outrebounded Pioneros Los Mochis 38-26 including 16 on the offensive glass. American forward Alfonzo McKinnie (203, college: Green Bay) fired a double-double by scoring 21 points and 11 rebounds for the winners. The former international point guard Steve Monreal (180-86, college: CS Monterey) chipped in 22 points and 6 assists. Five Rayos de Hermosillo players scored in double figures. American Leon Gibson (206-91, college: Houston) produced a double-double by scoring 24 points and 15 rebounds and the other American import swingman Manny Hernandez (190, college: Lynchburg) added 15 points respectively for lost side. Rayos de Hermosillo maintains first place with 28-12 record. Loser Pioneros Los Mochis keep the eighth position with 22 games lost. They share it with Obregon. Rayos de Hermosillo will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Pioneros Los Mochis will play against Ostioneros de Guaymas (#3) and hope to secure a win.
