Regular Season Round 12: Stirling S. - SW Slammers 130-88
Date: May 28, 2016
Not a big story in a game when 10th ranked Slammers (4-9) were outscored by sixth ranked Stirling S. (10-6) in Perth 130-88 on Saturday. Stirling S. dominated down low during the game scoring 72 of its points in the paint compared to Slammers' 52. Stirling S. forced 22 Slammers turnovers and outrebounded them 54-35 including a 36-24 advantage in defensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists comparing to just 13 passes made by Slammers' players. It was a good game for the former international forward Cody Ellis (203-90, college: St.Louis) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 28 points, 11 rebounds and 5 assists. Guard Jayden Coburn (191) contributed with 31 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. American forward Royal Crouch (193, college: Wayland Baptist) replied with 31 points and 8 rebounds (on 14-of-18 shooting from the field) and his fellow American import guard Tre Nichols (180-89, college: Boise St.) added 13 points and 5 rebounds in the effort for Slammers. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Stirling S. maintains sixth position in League with 10-6 record. Loser Slammers dropped to the eleventh place with nine games lost. Stirling S. will face again Slammers (#11) in Bunbury in the next round where they are favorite.
