Frayles de Guasave (#4) was upset in Tijuana by seventh ranked Tijuana Zonkeys 88-79. Tijuana Zonkeys brought some defensive toughness making 7 blocks. Americans were the main players on the court. It was an exceptional evening for swingman Dwayne Mitchell (196-82, college: La-Lafayette) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 14 points, 10 rebounds and 8 assists. Guard Trayvon Lathan (201-84, college: Chowan) accounted for 15 points and 6 rebounds for the winning side. Lathan is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Tijuana Zonkeys' coach used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Guard Durrell Summers (193-89, college: Michigan St.) came up with 21 points and 9 rebounds and Kevin Rogers (206-86, college: Baylor) added 22 points and 5 rebounds respectively for Frayles de Guasave in the defeat. Five Tijuana Zonkeys and four Frayles de Guasave players scored in double figures. Defending champion maintains seventh place with 19-21 record. Frayles de Guasave lost fifth consecutive game. They dropped to the fifth position with 18 games lost. Tijuana Zonkeys will play against Trigueros de Ciudad Obregon (#8) at home in the next round. Frayles de Guasave will play against Caballeros de Culiacan and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
