Regular Season Round 20: Mandurah M. - SW Slammers 96-125

Date: July 23, 2016
Everything could happen in Mandurah at the game between two tied teams. Both fourteenth ranked Slammers and 13th ranked Magic had identical 5-19 record. But Magic was not able to use a home court advantage and was crushed by the opponent from Bunbury 125-96 on Saturday night. Slammers made 16-of-21 free shots (76.2 percent) during the game. They also forced 20 Magic turnovers. Strangely Magic outrebounded Slammers 58-43 including a 20-8 advantage in offensive rebounds. Worth to mention a great performance of American guard Tre Nichols (180-89, college: Boise St.) who helped to win the game recording 51 points (!!!), 7 assists and 6 steals and naturalized American power forward Clive Weeden (206-87, college: Dartmouth) who added 21 points and 12 rebounds during the contest. Power forward Benjamin Smith (204-88, college: Concordia Irvine) responded with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 23 rebounds (was perfect 10-for-10 from the free throw line !!!) and American swingman Trevor Setty (203-89, college: Pikeville) scored 30 points and 7 rebounds. Four Magic players scored in double figures. Slammers (6-19) moved-up to thirteenth place in League. Loser Magic dropped to the fourteenth position with 20 games lost. Slammers will face higher ranked Giants (#11) in Kalgoorlie in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Magic will play at home against Stirling S. and hope to win that game.
