Regular Season Round 5: America - Pinheiros 75-100

Bottom-ranked America is still unable to win any game. But it was rather predictable considering how strong their opponent was. This time they could not use their home court advantage losing their fifth consecutive match to fifth ranked Pinheiros (4-1) 100-75 on Thursday evening. The game was mostly controlled by Pinheiros. America was better in fourth quarter 30-19. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Pinheiros dominated down low during the game scoring 72 of its points in the paint compared to America's 34. Center Ralfi Ansaloni (211-87) orchestrated the victory by scoring 24 points and 6 rebounds (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field). American guard Desmond Holloway (191-90, college: Co.Carolina) contributed with 19 points and 4 assists for the winners. American point guard Dave Boykin (196-88, college: Bridgeport) answered with 16 points and 5 rebounds and the other American import guard Jamell Cromartie (183) added 13 points in the effort for America. Five Pinheiros and four America players scored in double figures. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Pinheiros moved-up to second place, which they share with Paulistano. America lost their fifth game in a row. They still close the standings with five games lost. Pinheiros will face Osasco B. (#5) in the next round. America will play against Rio Claro (#6) and hopes to get finally their first victory.
