The game between closely ranked teams ended with 7th ranked America's (5-13) home loss to sixth ranked Rio Claro (9-8) 74-80 on Wednesday. America trailed by 11 points after 3 quarters before a 18-13 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 74-80 at the end of the game. The best player for the winners was the former international Andre Stefanelli (196-84) who scored 20 points and 4 assists. The former international point guard George Yeye Torres (188-91) chipped in 12 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists (was perfect 10-for-10 from the free throw line !!!). Four Rio Claro players scored in double figures. Guard Rafael Castellon (-85) produced 30 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists and 5 steals and American point guard Dave Boykin (196-88, college: Bridgeport) added 14 points and 4 steals respectively for the hosts. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Rio Claro maintains sixth place with 9-8 record. America lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the eighth position with 13 games lost. Rio Claro will face league's leader Mogi in Mogi das Cruzes in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. America will play on the road against Liga Sorocaba (#9) in Sorocabana and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
