Regular Season Round 1: Astoria Bydg. - Polonia Leszno 76-80

Very important is a home loss of Astoria Bydg. (0-1) against newcomer Polonia Leszno (1-0) on Friday night. Host Astoria Bydgoszcz was defeated by Polonia Leszno in a tough game in Bydgoszcz 76-80. The guests started the game with a very strong first quarter 27-18. But Astoria Bydg. won second period 22-18. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Polonia Leszno won last quarter 21-19. They also forced 20 Astoria Bydg. turnovers and outrebounded them 44-28 including a 20-3 advantage in offensive rebounds. 27 personal fouls committed by Astoria Bydg. helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Worth to mention a great performance of guard Nikodem Sirijatowicz (188-94) who helped to win the game recording 16 points and 6 assists. Young forward Szymon Kiwilsza (202-97) contributed with 16 points and 9 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) for the winners. Point guard Patryk Gospodarek (184-94, agency: Octagon Europe) answered with 23 points, 6 rebounds and 8 assists and power forward Sebastian Laydych (203-87) added 7 points and 5 rebounds in the effort for Astoria Bydg.Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Polonia Leszno's next round opponent will be Rosa II Radom (#15) at home which should be an easy win for them. Astoria Bydg. will play against Legia W-wa (#13) and hope to win that game.
