There was a minor upset when 7th ranked America (5-13) lost to ninth ranked Liga Sorocaba (4-13) in Sorocabana 73-83 on Saturday. The hosts were tied at the half but managed to speed up in last two quarters eventually winning the game. Liga Sorocaba made 20-of-23 free shots (87.0 percent) during the game. They also forced 19 America turnovers and outrebounded them 49-26 including a 17-2 advantage in offensive rebounds. Point guard Patrick Vieira (186-93) notched 37 points (!!!) and 7 rebounds to lead the effort and Alexandre de Souza (202-92) supported him with 10 points and 17 rebounds. Four Liga Sorocaba players scored in double figures. Even a double-double of 25 points and 10 rebounds by guard Rafael Castellon (-85) did not help to save the game for America. American point guard Dave Boykin (196-88, college: Bridgeport) added 17 points and 6 steals. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Liga Sorocaba maintains ninth position with 4-13 record. America lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the eighth place with 13 games lost.
