Regular Season Round 3: Panteras - Halcones 66-63 OT

The biggest surprise of round 3 in LPB took place in where host Panteras (3-0) edged Halcones (2-1) 66-63 in overtime on Sunday evening. The hosts started the game with a very strong first quarter 16-7. But Halcones won second period 13-10. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening, at least not yet. The game turned upside-down in the last quarter, where Halcones used huge pressure winning it 22-20 getting a tie at the end of regular time. They lost eventually overtime period 2-5. Panteras dominated on the defensive end, holding Halcones to just 7 points in first quarter. The best player for the winners was swingman Shayra Brown (175-92, college: Boston Coll.) who had a double-double by scoring 24 points, 17 rebounds and 5 blocks. Venezuelan Nathaly Malpica chipped in 16 points and 8 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was Yissel Molinar who recorded 19 points, 5 assists and 5 steals and center Veronica Vega (-90) added 11 points and 12 rebounds respectively. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Halcones will play next round against strong Correcaminos trying to make it back to the top of the standings. Panteras will try to continue on its current victory against Aguilas on the road.
