Regular Season Round 1: Ventspils - Jekabpils 91-70

Host Ventspils (1-0) smashed Jekabpils (0-1) 91-70. The game was mostly controlled by Ventspils. Jekabpils managed to win fourth quarter 18-17. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Ventspils dominated down low during the game scoring 50 of its points in the paint compared to Jekabpils' 20. Ventspils forced 20 Jekabpils turnovers and outrebounded them 31-19 including 22 on the defensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. Senegalese center Cheikh Mbodj (208-87, college: Cincinnati, agency: Octagon Europe) fired 14 points and 8 rebounds for the winners. Forward Aigars Skele (192-92) chipped in 15 points and 4 assists. Four Ventspils players scored in double figures. Point guard Rinalds Sirsnins (186-85) produced 8 points and 6 assists and guard Janis Antrops (193-91) added 14 points respectively for lost side. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Ventspils will meet BK Ogre on the road in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Jekabpils will play against VEF Riga (#4) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
