An exciting game was played in San Sebastian. Gipuzkoa UPV faced Socinsa Bembibre. Host Gipuzkoa UPV (1-0) edged guests from Bembibre (0-1) 64-62. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 19-15. But Socinsa Bembibre won second period 17-16. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Argentinian center Gisela Vega (188-82) fired a double-double by scoring 14 points and 16 rebounds for the winners (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). Guard Gabriela Ocete (170-88) chipped in 16 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Power forward Rita Esther Montenegro (188-82) produced 13 points and 9 rebounds and American point guard Brianna Banks (175-93, college: Penn St.) added 16 points respectively for lost side. Four Socinsa Bembibre players scored in double figures. Gipuzkoa UPV will face Cadi La Seu (#9) in Seu D'urgell in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Socinsa Bembibre will play at home against Mann Filter and hope to win that game.
