Ponce Valladolid was not able to use a home court advantage and was defeated by the opponent from Sant Adria de Besos 66-48 on Saturday night. The game was mostly controlled by Sant Adria. Ponce Valladolid was better in third quarter 17-10. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Sant Adria won last quarter 20-4. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Ponce Valladolid to just 4 points in fourth quarter. British guard Eilidh Simpson (170-92, college: St.Francis, NY) stepped up and scored 9 points and 12 rebounds for the winners and Maria Gascon (-98) chipped in 16 points. Sant Adria's coach used an eleven-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. At the losing side center Alejandra De La Fuente (193-88) responded with a double-double by scoring 12 points and 13 rebounds and American guard Alyesha Lovett (183-93, college: Cincinnati) scored 18 points. Sant Adria will face Real Celta Vigo (#12) at home in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Ponce Valladolid will play against Oviedo (#11) and hope to win that game.
