Regular Season Round 2: Azuqueca - Lanzarote 100-70

Not a big story in a game when Lanzarote (0-1) was outplayed on the road by Azuqueca (2-0) 100-70 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Azuqueca. Lanzarote was better in second period 24-16. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Azuqueca dominated down low during the game scoring 62 of its points in the paint compared to Lanzarote's 32. Azuqueca forced 22 Lanzarote turnovers and outrebounded them 52-30 including a 31-16 advantage in defensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Lanzarote was plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. The best player for the winners was Serbian power forward Branislav Tomic (205-80) who scored 20 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists. Venezuela forward Luis Valera (202-88, college: UTRGV, agency: Duran International) chipped in a double-double by scoring 17 points and 13 rebounds. Center PA Diene (208-98) produced a double-double by scoring 14 points and 12 rebounds and Cecimo Armas (-92) added 14 points respectively for the guests. Five Azuqueca and four Lanzarote players scored in double figures. Lanzarote's coach Ivan Fernandez gave up on the game allowing to play eleven players seeing no chance for a win. Azuqueca will face Alcobendas (#7) on the road in the next round where they are favorite. Lanzarote will play against Real Madrid II and hope to win that game.
