Regular Season Round 3: Fukushima - Yamagata 66-73

The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of Fukushima (2-1) at the home court on Saturday night. Hosts were defeated by Yamagata (2-1) 73-66. Fukushima trailed by 14 points after 3 quarters before a 22-15 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 66-73 at the end of the game. They outrebounded Fukushima 39-23 including a 30-18 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was an exceptional evening for American center Markhuri Sanders-Frison (203-88, college: California) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 11 points and 15 rebounds. Guard Masanari Masanari (186-91) accounted for 15 points (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field) for the winning side. American forward Donnavan Kirk (206-91, college: Miami, FL) came up with 13 points and 6 rebounds and the other American import guard Cedric Bozeman (198-83, college: UCLA) added 11 points and 5 rebounds respectively for Fukushima in the defeat. Four Fukushima players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Yamagata will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Fukushima will play again against Yamagata and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
