Regular Season Round 3: Sendai 89ers - Hokkaido L. 72-67

Sendai 89ers used a home court advantage and beat the opponent from Saporro 72-67 on Saturday night. The hosts started the game with a very strong first quarter 23-10. But Hokkaido L. won second period 22-15. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Sendai 89ers won last quarter 19-16. It was a great evening for South Africa center Tshilidzi Nephawe (208-89, college: N.Mexico St.) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 13 rebounds. Guard Kaito Ishikawa (188-90) helped adding 14 points and 4 assists. Sendai 89ers' coach Takeo Mabashi used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. The best for the losing side was the former international guard Ryota Sakurai (194-83) with a double-double by scoring 14 points and 10 rebounds and American center Daniel Miller (211-91, college: Georgia Tech) scored 10 points and 6 rebounds. Four Hokkaido L. players scored in double figures. Sendai 89ers will face again Hokkaido L. (#6) in Saporro in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game.
