Regular Season Round 3: Estudiantes C. - Atenas 79-73

Date: October 2, 2016
Rather expected game in Concordia where Atenas (0-4) was defeated by Estudiantes C. (2-2) 79-73 on Sunday. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Atenas won third quarter 19-18. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Estudiantes C. dominated down low during the game scoring 46 of its points in the paint compared to Atenas' 26. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Estudiantes C. made 7 blocks. Atenas was plagued by 30 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a great evening for Cuba center Javier Justiz (205-92, agency: Pro Sports) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 17 points, 14 rebounds and 4 blocks. American-Jordanian Dar Tucker (193-88, college: De Paul) helped adding 20 points and 10 rebounds. Four Estudiantes C. players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was the former international Diego Lo Grippo (198-78) with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 11 rebounds and American Walter Baxley (193-84, college: Mars Hill) scored 21 points (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line). Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Estudiantes C. will face San Martin Corrientes (#4) at home in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
