Regular Season Round 4: Niigata Albirex - Hitachi SR 76-66

The biggest surprise took place in Niigata where host Niigata Albirex (2-2) beat league's leader Hitachi Sunrockers (3-1) 76-66 on Sunday evening. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Hitachi Sunrockers. It may be a crucial game in the contest for the top position in the league. Hitachi Sunrockers were trailing by 4 points at halftime but managed to get 1-point lead after three quarters before a 22-11 charge of Niigata Albirex, which allowed them to win the game. American power forward Clint Chapman (208-89, college: Texas) fired a double-double by scoring 24 points and 12 rebounds for the winners. The former international guard Kei Igarashi (180-80) chipped in a double-double by scoring 12 points, 10 rebounds and 7 assists. International forward Ira Brown (193-82, college: Gonzaga) produced a double-double by scoring 11 points and 13 rebounds and Trinidad and Tobago forward Kadeem Jack (206-92, college: Rutgers) added 18 points and 7 rebounds respectively for lost side. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Niigata Albirex moved-up to second place, which they share with 5 other teams. Hitachi Sunrockers at the other side still keep top position with one game lost. They were joined at the leadership position by Sanen who have the same record. Hitachi Sunrockers will play next round against Toyama Grouses trying to make it back to the top of the standings. Niigata Albirex will try to continue on its current victory against fourth ranked Toshiba Thunders in Kanagawa.
