Regular Season Round 4: Ferrocarril - Penarol 78-52
Date: October 5, 2016
Very important is a road loss of first ranked Penarol (5-1) against fourth ranked Ferrocarril (3-1) on Wednesday night. Visiting Penarol was crushed by Ferrocarril in Buenos Aires 78-52. It looked good early as Penarol took a 3-point small lead at the end of first quarter. But then Ferrocarril had a 19-7 second period charge getting the lead and Penarol was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 52-78. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Penarol to just 7 points in second quarter. Ferrocarril dominated down low during the game scoring 42 of its points in the paint compared to Penarol's 22. Ferrocarril forced 21 Penarol turnovers. The winners were led by American-Puerto Rican Ramon Clemente (200-85, college: Wichita St.) who scored that evening 19 points and 5 rebounds (perfect from the field making all seven shots !!!) and naturalized Spanish guard Jonathan Maldonado (188-90) supported him with 13 points. Four Ferrocarril players scored in double figures. Even 13 points and 6 rebounds by American guard Rob Reed (185, college: Concord) did not help to save the game for Penarol. Point guard Nicolas Zurschmitten (183-95) added 8 points and 5 rebounds for lost side. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Ferrocarril moved-up to third place in Sur, which they share with San Lorenzo. Penarol at the other side still keeps top position with one game lost. Ferrocarril's next round opponent will be league's second-placed Weber Bahia in Bahia Blanca and it will be for sure the game of the week. Penarol will play at home against Obras Basket and hope to win that game.
