Everything went according to plan when Andorra (1-0) defeated at home Gran Canaria (0-2) 97-89 on Thursday. The hosts trailed by 4 points after three quarters before their 29-17 charge, which allowed them to win the game. Andorra made 28-of-32 free shots (87.5 percent) during the game, while Gran Canaria only scored seven points from the stripe. They outrebounded Gran Canaria 38-27 including 16 on the offensive glass. Andorra looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. French point guard Andrew Albicy (178-90) notched 14 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists to lead the effort and Serbian power forward Oliver Stevic (204-84, agency: BeoBasket) supported him with 11 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists. Four Andorra players scored in double figures. Even 17 points by Dominican forward Eulis Baez (201-82, college: W.Illinois) did not help to save the game for Gran Canaria. Finnish guard Sasu Salin (192-91) added 16 points for the guests. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Andorra will meet at home Joventut (#15) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Gran Canaria will play against Valencia Basket and hope to win that game.
