Regular Season Round 5: Toshiba BT - Niigata Albirex 103-70

The game between closely ranked teams ended with 4th placed Niigata Albirex's (2-4) road loss to third ranked Toshiba Thunders (4-2) in Kanagawa 70-103 on Friday. The game was mostly controlled by Toshiba Thunders. Niigata Albirex was better in fourth quarter 25-23. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Niigata Albirex to just 7 points in second quarter. They outrebounded Niigata Albirex 40-23 including a 29-18 advantage in defensive rebounds. Toshiba Thunders shot the lights out from three sinking 12 long-distance shots on high 52.2 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. American players dominated the game. Forward Nick Fazekas (211-85, college: Nevada) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 26 points and 11 rebounds (on 12-of-14 shooting from the field). Forward Ryan Spangler (203-91, college: Oklahoma) contributed with a double-double by scoring 10 points and 11 rebounds for the winners. Five Toshiba Thunders players scored in double figures. Toshiba Thunders' coach Takuya Kita felt very confident that he used entire bench and allowed the starting five to get some rest. Power forward Clint Chapman (208-89, college: Texas) answered with 30 points and forward Stephan Van Treese (206-90, college: Louisville, agency: Inception Sports) added 9 points and 7 rebounds in the effort for Niigata Albirex. Toshiba Thunders have a solid series of four victories in a row. They maintain third place with 4-2 record having just one point less than leader Tochigi Brex. Loser Niigata Albirex keeps the fourth position with four games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
