Regular Season Round 5: Gunma - Fukushima 78-75 OT

Fukushima (#3) forced the game against Gunma (#2) into an overtime, but lost by three points 75-78 on Friday night. It was a key game for the second position in the league. Fukushima was trailing by 4 points at halftime but managed to get 2-point lead after three quarters before a 13-11 charge of Gunma, which allowed them to tie the game at the end of regular time. They were better in overtime eventually winning that period 11-8. Gunma outrebounded Fukushima 46-34 including 16 on the offensive glass. The game was dominated by American players. The best player for the winners was center Kenneth Simms (205-86, college: Cumberland, agency: HMS) who had a double-double by scoring 19 points and 14 rebounds (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field). Forward Thomas Kennedy (201-87, college: Detroit Mercy) chipped in 23 points and 9 rebounds. Gunma's coach used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. Forward Donnavan Kirk (206-91, college: Miami, FL) produced 15 points and 8 rebounds and center Nigel Spikes (208-89, college: Marshall) added 11 points and 8 rebounds respectively for the guests. They have a solid series of three victories in a row. Gunma maintains second place with 4-2 record behind leader Cyberdyne IR. Fukushima at the other side dropped to the fourth position with three games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
