Regular Season Round 1: Thor AK - Stjarnan 82-91

Date: October 7, 2016
The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of Thor AK (0-1) in Akureyri on Friday night. Hosts were defeated by Stjarnan (1-0) 91-82. The guests started the game with a very strong first quarter 28-16. But Thor AK won second period 24-19. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Stjarnan looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of the former international power forward Hlynur Baeringsson (200-82) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 15 points, 12 rebounds and 7 assists. The former international point guard Justin Shouse (181-81, college: Mercyhurst) contributed with 20 points and 8 assists for the winners. Five Stjarnan players scored in double figures. Stjarnan's coach Hrafn Kristjansson used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The former international guard Darrel Lewis (192-76, college: Lincoln, MO) answered with a double-double by scoring 24 points and 10 rebounds and American point guard Jalen Riley (182-93, college: E.Tenn.St., agency: Duran International) added 27 points in the effort for Thor AK. Stjarnan is looking forward to face IR (#3) in Reykjavik in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Thor AK will play on the road against Tindastoll (#12) in Sauoarkrokur and is hoping to prove to their supporters that the loss was just an accident.
