Regular Season Round 5: Tochigi Brex - Sendai 89ers 108-56

The game had a very big importance for third-ranked Tochigi Brex as it allowed them to take a leadership position. Tochigi Brex smashed second-ranked Sendai 89ers at home 108-56. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Sendai 89ers. It was a key game for the top position in the league. The game was mostly controlled by Tochigi Brex. Sendai 89ers managed to win fourth quarter 23-21. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Tochigi Brex dominated down low during the game scoring 72 of its points in the paint compared to Sendai 89ers' 36. Tochigi Brex forced 25 Sendai 89ers turnovers. It was a great shooting night for Tochigi Brex especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 66.7 percentage. American forward Jeffrey Gibbs (188-80, college: Otterbein) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 14 points and 12 rebounds. The former international guard Hironori Watanabe (180-88) contributed with 16 points and 5 assists for the winners. American forward Dion Wright (201-93, college: St.Bonaventure) answered with 22 points and 9 rebounds and guard Kaito Ishikawa (188-90) added 12 points in the effort for Sendai 89ers. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Tochigi Brex have a solid series of three victories in a row. As mentioned above they are at the top of the standings, which they share with 3 other teams. Sendai 89ers at the other side keep the second place with two games lost. They share the position with SeaHorses and Kyoto Hannar.. Sendai 89ers will have a break next week, which should allow them to rest in order to get back on the winning path. Tochigi Brex will try to continue on its current victory against third ranked Sendai 89ers at home.
