Azkoitia used a home court advantage and defeated the opponent from Vilagarcia Arousa 71-60 on Sunday night. The hosts trailed by 9 points after first quarter, but they stormed back and won the game by 11 points. Azkoitia forced 24 Cortegada turnovers. Guard Intza Lizarazu (171-91) scored 18 points and 5 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and American forward Janee Johnson (185, college: Seton Hall) chipped in 13 points and 10 rebounds during the contest. Cape Verdean-American guard Vandell Andrade (179-93, college: Le Moyne) responded with a double-double by scoring 11 points and 16 rebounds and Senegalese center Amy Syll (196-93) produced a double-double by scoring 13 points and 10 rebounds. Five Cortegada players scored in double figures. Azkoitia will face GDKO Bizkaia (#12) in Galdakao in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Cortegada will play at home against Sant Adria (#3) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
