The game had a very big importance for second-ranked Hitachi Sunrockers as it allowed them to take a leadership position. Hitachi Sunrockers smashed 5th ranked Toyama Grouses in Tokyo 76-52. The game without a history. Hitachi Sunrockers led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. Hitachi Sunrockers forced 20 Toyama Grouses turnovers. International forward Ira Brown (193-82, college: Gonzaga) had a double-double by scoring 18 points and 11 rebounds (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field) to lead the charge for the winners and American power forward R.T. Guinn (208-81, college: Baylor) chipped in 11 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists during the contest. Four Hitachi Sunrockers players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was American forward Sam Willard (205-88, college: Pacific, agency: Pensack Sports) with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 11 rebounds and Masashi Joho (183-82) scored 11 points. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. As mentioned above they are at the top of the standings, which they share with 4 other teams. Toyama Grouses lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the fifth place with five games lost. They share the position with 3 other teams. Toyama Grouses will play next round against Yokohama BC trying to get back on the winning streak. Hitachi Sunrockers will try to continue on its current victory against third ranked Toshiba Thunders in Kanagawa.
