The most surprising game was a loss of Barcelona (1-1) in Lugo on Sunday night. Visitors were defeated by Maquinaria Ensino (1-1) 75-69. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 19-12. But Barcelona won second period 22-21. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Maquinaria Ensino won last quarter 21-16. Maquinaria Ensino outrebounded Barcelona 43-29 including a 35-22 advantage in defensive rebounds. 27 personal fouls committed by Barcelona helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Forward Raquel Asensio (178-83) scored 17 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists to lead the charge for the winners and Paloma Dorda chipped in 14 points and 12 rebounds during the contest. Four Maquinaria Ensino players scored in double figures. Maquinaria Ensino's coach used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Gala Mestres responded with 19 points and 4 assists and forward Ana Alonso (187-90) scored 14 points and 5 rebounds. Maquinaria Ensino is looking forward to face Ponce Valladolid (#8) on the road in the next round. Barcelona will play against ADBA and is hoping to win this game.
