Regular Season Round 4: Girona - Araski 79-56
Date: October 12, 2016
There was no surprise when 8th ranked Araski (2-2) was crushed on the road by top-ranked Argon Uni Girona (4-0) 79-56. The game without a history. Argon Uni Girona led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Araski to just 7 points in second quarter. Argon Uni Girona dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to Araski's 32. Argon Uni Girona forced 22 Araski turnovers. The winners were led by American forward Haley Peters (190-92, college: Duke) who scored that evening 25 points and 7 rebounds and Greek forward Artemis Spanou (188-93, college: Robert Morris) supported her with 10 points and 6 rebounds. Even 9 points and 6 rebounds by American Margaret Roundtree (183-88, college: Gardner-Webb) did not help to save the game for Araski. Swingman Marta Tudanca (182-90) added 13 points for lost side. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Argon Uni Girona have a solid four-game winning streak. They keep a position of league leader, which they share with Avenida. Newly promoted Araski dropped to the fifth place with two games lost. Argon Uni Girona's next round opponent will be bottom-ranked Gran Canaria (#14) in Las Palmas which should be another easy win for them. Araski will play at home against Socinsa Bembibre (#3) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
