Regular Season Round 3: Kataja Basket - Kouvot 89-69

Joensuun Kataja (2-0) crushed at home Kouvot (1-2) by 20 points 89-69, which is the biggest margin this round on Wednesday night. The game was mostly controlled by Joensuun Kataja. Kouvot managed to win third quarter 23-20. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Kouvot 45-30 including 34 on the defensive glass. Joensuun Kataja looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. The best player for the winners was Canadian guard Daniel Mullings (188-91, college: N.Mexico St.) who scored 27 points and 6 rebounds. American forward Nino Johnson (206-93, college: SE Missouri St.) chipped in 9 points and 12 rebounds. Four Joensuun Kataja players scored in double figures. Joensuun Kataja's coach Greg Gibson used an eleven-player rotation saving starting five for next games. At the other side the best for losing team was American guard Steven Pledger (193-90, college: Oklahoma) who recorded 34 points (!!!) and 5 rebounds and the other American import forward Gregg Thondique (201-87, college: Virginia Union, agency: Octagon Europe) added 14 points and 9 rebounds respectively. Joensuun Kataja will meet at home Tampereen Pyrinto (#10) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Kouvot will have a break next round.
