Regular Season Round 7: Iwate Big Bulls - Gunma 64-78

Very predictable result when first ranked Gunma (5-2) defeated on the road bottom-ranked Iwate Big Bulls (0-7) 78-64 on Saturday. It was a very close game until the last quarter, when Gunma's pressure prevailed and they won that period 26-19 extending their advantage to 14 points. Gunma outrebounded Iwate Big Bulls 40-27 including 27 on the defensive glass. It was a great evening for Nigeria forward Abdullahi Kuso (206-84, college: Tallahassee CC) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 15 rebounds (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field). Point guard Masashi Obuchi (182-83) helped adding 16 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists. Four Gunma players scored in double figures. At the losing side American center Donald Lawson (208-88, college: W.Michigan) responded with 12 points and 9 rebounds and the other American import power forward Nicchaeus Doaks (201-87, college: Chattanooga) scored 9 points and 8 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Gunma have a solid series of four victories in a row. They maintain first place with 5-2 record, which they share with Hiroshima D. and Kumamoto V. Loser Iwate Big Bulls still closes the standings with seven games lost. Gunma will have a break next round. Iwate Big Bulls will play again at home against the league's leader Gunma (#1) and hope to get finally their first victory.
