Regular Season Round 8: Aomori Watts - Yamagata 61-64

Everything could happen at the game between two tied teams. Both fourth ranked Yamagata and 5th ranked Aomori Watts had identical 4-3 record. But Aomori Watts were not able to use a home court advantage and were edged by the opponent from Yamagata 64-61 on Sunday night. The guests trailed by 3 points at the halftime before their 16-6 charge in the third quarter, which allowed them to win the game. Yamagata dominated on the defensive end, holding Aomori Watts to just 6 points in third quarter. The best player for the winners was guard Masanari Masanari (186-91) who scored 20 points. American center Markhuri Sanders-Frison (203-88, college: California) chipped in a double-double by scoring 10 points and 10 rebounds. American forward Alan Wiggins (206-85, college: USF) produced 15 points and 8 rebounds and guard Daichi Shimoyama (181-89) added 13 points and 5 rebounds respectively for the hosts. Four Aomori Watts players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Yamagata have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to second place, which they share with Cyberdyne IR. Aomori Watts at the other side dropped to the third position with four games lost. Yamagata will face Iwate Big Bulls (#6) at home in the next round. Aomori Watts will play against Fukushima and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
