Regular Season Round 8: Hitachi SR - Toshiba BT 56-68

Everything could happen in Tokyo at the game between two tied teams. Both second ranked Toshiba Thunders and one of their biggest challengers Hitachi Sunrockers had identical 5-2 record. But Hitachi Sunrockers were not able to use a home court advantage and were defeated by the opponent from Kanagawa 68-56 on Sunday night. It was a key game for the top position in the league. The guests trailed by 6 points at the halftime before their 36-18 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. Toshiba Thunders dominated on the defensive end, holding Hitachi Sunrockers to just 5 points in third quarter. American forward Nick Fazekas (211-85, college: Nevada) orchestrated the victory by scoring 23 points and 9 rebounds. The other American import forward Ryan Spangler (203-91, college: Oklahoma) contributed with a double-double by scoring 16 points, 13 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. Toshiba Thunders' coach Takuya Kita used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. International forward Ira Brown (193-82, college: Gonzaga) replied with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 11 rebounds and American power forward R.T. Guinn (208-81, college: Baylor) added 13 points in the effort for Hitachi Sunrockers. Toshiba Thunders (6-2) have an impressive six-game winning streak. They keep a position of league leader, which they share with Sanen. Loser Hitachi Sunrockers dropped to the second place with three games lost. Toshiba Thunders will face Toyama Grouses (#6) at home in the next round where they are favorite. Hitachi Sunrockers will play against the league's leader Sanen Neophoenix (#1) in Hamamatsu and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
