A very close game took place in Haifa between Hapoel Tel-Aviv and Maccabi Haifa. Hapoel Tel-Aviv (2-0) got a very close victory on the road over Maccabi Haifa (0-2). Hapoel Tel-Aviv managed to escape with a 3-point win 89-86 on Wednesday evening. The guests trailed by 8 points after three quarters before their 31-20 charge, which allowed them to win the game. Hapoel Tel-Aviv looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. Naturalized American Richard Howell (203-90, college: N.Carolina St.) scored 21 points and 6 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and point guard Tamir Blatt (180-97) chipped in 9 points, 6 rebounds and 12 assists during the contest. Mexican guard Alexander Perez Kaufmann (191-93, agency: Pro Sports) responded with 23 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists and American swingman William Graves (198-88, college: N.Carolina) scored 14 points and 5 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Hapoel Tel-Aviv will meet Hapoel Eilat (#9) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Maccabi Haifa will play against Maccabi K/G in Kiryat Gat and hope to win that game.
