Regular Season Round 4: Oviedo - Cortegada 36-77

Very expected game when bottom-ranked Oviedo (0-4) was crushed at home by sixth ranked Cortegada (3-1) 77-36 on Saturday. The game without a history. Cortegada led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Oviedo to just 2 points in second quarter and to 13 points in first half. Cortegada held Oviedo to an opponent 23.1 percent shooting from the field compared to 48.4 percent accuracy of the winners. They outrebounded Oviedo 51-30 including a 37-18 advantage in defensive rebounds. Worth to mention a great performance of Croatia forward Davorka Balic (188-88) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 11 points and 12 rebounds and Senegalese center Amy Syll (196-93) who added 15 points and 11 rebounds during the contest. Cortegada's coach felt very confident using 10 players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. At the losing side Raquel Gonzalez (169-99) responded with 15 points and 7 rebounds and Canadian guard Mariah Nunes (178-93, college: Ryerson) scored 10 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists. Cortegada moved-up to second place in Group A, which they share with Arxil Pontev. and Sant Adria. Loser Oviedo still closes the standings with four games lost. Cortegada will face Maquinaria Ensino (#6) in Lugo in the next round. Oviedo will play on the road against GDKO Bizkaia (#11) in Galdakao and hopes to get finally their first victory.
