Salerno was not able to use a home court advantage and was edged by the opponent from Stabia 50-48 on Saturday night. The guests trailed by 1 point at the halftime before their 25-22 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. Castellammare dominated on the defensive end, holding Salerno to just 7 points in fourth quarter. It was a great evening for American-Irish forward Fiona O'Dwyer (178-99, college: Emmanuel, MA) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 12 points and 12 rebounds. Guard Maria Ortolani (178-97) helped adding 13 points and 5 rebounds. The best for the losing side was guard Martina Zolfanelli (172-98) with 15 points and 7 rebounds and center Alice Ceccardi (182-98) produced a double-double by scoring 12 points and 10 rebounds. Castellammare will face Bologna at home in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Salerno will play against Civitanova (#4) where they are definitely not considered as a favorite in this game either.
