Regular Season Round 5: Ourense - Melilla 77-72
Date: October 22, 2016
Rather predictable result when eleventh ranked Ourense (3-2) defeated at home 15th ranked Melilla Baloncesto (1-4) 77-72 on Saturday. However just five-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. Melilla Baloncesto trailed by 13 points after 3 quarters before a 19-11 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 72-77 at the end of the game. Ourense made 16-of-21 free shots (76.2 percent) during the game. It was a great shooting night for Ourense especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 52.4 percentage. Canadian-Bosnian guard Diego Kapelan (190-87, college: McNeese St.) stepped up and scored 21 points (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) for the winners and naturalized Russia power forward Dmitriy Flis (204-84) chipped in 12 points. Ourense's coach Gonzalo Garcia allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. Point guard Pedro Rivero (186-79) responded with 16 points and 7 rebounds and center Oliver Arteaga (208-83) scored 15 points and 4 steals. The victory was the third consecutive win for Ourense. They moved-up to fifth place, which they share with 5 other teams. Melilla Baloncesto lost their third game in a row. Loser Melilla Baloncesto dropped to the fourteenth position with four games lost. Ourense will face higher ranked Leyma Basquet (#3) in Coruna in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Melilla Baloncesto will play at home against Cocinas.com (#18) and hope to win that game.
