Regular Season Round 9: San-en - Hitachi SR 70-68

Date: October 22, 2016
A very interesting game took place in Hamamatsu. It ended with only two-point defeat on the road of 3rd placed Hitachi Sunrockers (5-4) to second ranked Sanen Neophoenix (7-2) 70-68 on Saturday evening. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Hitachi Sunrockers won fourth quarter 20-13. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Strangely Hitachi Sunrockers outrebounded Sanen Neophoenix 38-24 including a 30-19 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was a good game for American forward Robert Dozier (206-85, college: Memphis) who led his team to a victory with 23 points and 8 rebounds. Point guard Tatsuya Suzuki (169-91) contributed with 9 points for the winners. American power forward R.T. Guinn (208-81, college: Baylor) answered with 19 points and 9 rebounds and naturalized American guard Aki Chambers (190-90, college: Cal Merced) added 15 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for Hitachi Sunrockers. Four Hitachi Sunrockers players scored in double figures. Both coaches allowed to play bench players in such tough game. Sanen Neophoenix keeps a position of league leader, which they share with Nagoya DD and Toyota Alvark. Hitachi Sunrockers lost their third game in a row. They keep the third place with four games lost. Sanen Neophoenix's next round opponent will be again Hitachi Sunrockers (#3) in Tokyo, which may be the game of the day.
