Regular Season Round 9: Sendai 89ers - Akita NH 66-63

Important game to mention about took place in Sendai. Fourth ranked Sendai 89ers (4-5) saved a 3-point victory at home edging 6th ranked Akita Happinets (2-7) 66-63 on Saturday evening. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Akita Happinets won third quarter 17-14. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Sendai 89ers made 7 blocks. South Africa center Tshilidzi Nephawe (208-89, college: N.Mexico St.) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 13 rebounds for the winners and American forward Dion Wright (201-93, college: St.Bonaventure) chipped in 17 points and 7 rebounds. The best for the losing side was American forward Deshawn Stephens (203-89, college: San Diego St.) with 16 points and 9 rebounds and guard Seiya Ando (184-92) scored 10 points and 5 rebounds. Both coaches allowed to play bench players in such tough game. Sendai 89ers moved-up to third place, which they share with Niigata Albirex and Chiba Jets. Loser Akita Happinets keep the sixth position with seven games lost. Sendai 89ers will face again Akita Happinets (#6) at home in the next round.
