Regular Season Round 10: Yamagata - Iwate Big Bulls 63-62

There was no surprise when 6th ranked Iwate Big Bulls (1-9) were edged on the road by third ranked Yamagata (6-4) 63-62 on Sunday. The hosts started the game with a very strong first quarter 22-12. But Iwate Big Bulls won second period 12-11. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. American center Markhuri Sanders-Frison (203-88, college: California) scored 14 points and 9 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and guard Masanari Masanari (186-91) chipped in 16 points during the contest. At the losing side American center Donald Lawson (208-88, college: W.Michigan) responded with a double-double by scoring 10 points and 12 rebounds and his fellow American import power forward Nicchaeus Doaks (201-87, college: Chattanooga) produced a double-double by scoring 11 points and 10 rebounds. Four Iwate Big Bulls players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Yamagata moved-up to second place, which they share with Fukushima. Loser Iwate Big Bulls dropped to the fifth position with nine games lost. Yamagata will face Cyberdyne IR (#4) in Tsukuba in the next round. Iwate Big Bulls will play on the road against Aomori Watts and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
