Regular Season Round 4: Panteras - Garzas 85-77
Date: October 23, 2016
Very expected game when 10th ranked Garzas (1-3) lost to third ranked Panteras (4-1) in Aguascalientes 77-85. Panteras dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Garzas' 32 and made 19-of-24 charity shots (79.2 percent) during the game. Strangely Garzas outrebounded Panteras 48-36 including 34 on the defensive glass. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 22 assists. Garzas were plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. Worth to mention a great performance of Puerto Rican point guard Alex Abreu (180-91, college: W.Georgia) who helped to win the game recording 12 points and 8 assists and international power forward Fernando Benitez (204-89) who added 16 points (perfect from the field making all eight shots !!!) during the contest. Four Panteras players scored in double figures. At the losing side American forward Tyrone White (201-90, college: CSU Bakersfield) responded with 15 points and 6 rebounds and the former international forward Stephen Soriano (200-85, college: Colorado Mesa) scored 17 points and 5 rebounds. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Panteras have a solid four-game winning streak. They moved-up to second place. Newly promoted Garzas dropped to the seventh position with three games lost. They share it with Correcaminos. Panteras will play against bottom-ranked Ciudad (#10) in Ciudad Juarez in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Garzas will play on the road against Abejas in Guanajuato and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
